FOOD+DRINK Christmas is coming and the geese (and turkeys!) are getting fat Kent Turkeys are based on the family farm near Biddenden, Kent and each year rear over 1000 free-range Kelly Bronze turkeys and 150 Norfolk geese. Tony Fleck has been a Kelly Bronze franchisee for over 18 years, meaning he has plenty of experience in producing the best tasting turkeys and geese by allowing them to live free range in as natural an environment as possible. During the day, the birds roam freely across 16 acres of pasture grazing on bugs and berries, and with plenty of trees to shelter. At night, they are safely brought in to the turkey and goose houses with plenty of clean straw bedding, food and water. Raising strong and healthy birds means they are never given antibiotics or additives. By hatching the birds in their natural season and allowing them to grow slowly to maturity, the turkeys develop a layer of fat and a mature carcass and bone, giving a superior meat taste and texture, and producing a delicious natural gravy stock. Every turkey comes with full cooking instructions and complimentary thermometer. A Kelly Bronze turkey will also cook faster than a standard bird, making cooking Christmas dinner straightforward and stress free without hours spent in the kitchen. Look out for Kent Turkeys running tastings across Kent and southeast London in the run up to Christmas at fairs and farmers’ markets. Orders may be placed online for collection from the farm near Biddenden, or at selected pick up points throughout Kent and southeast London — more details may be found at www.kentturkeys.co.uk, or by calling 01580 291792. Kentish Oils launch three new rapeseed blends Kentish Oils, producer of award-winning farm-pressed rapeseed oils, has launched three new blended rapeseed oils: Garden Mint, Rosemary and Basil. Established in 2008, Kentish Oils was the first Kent rapeseed oil producer to grow, press and bottle on their farm, initially producing an original rapeseed oil then adding blends with garlic, lemon and jalepeño chilli. The new blends will bring the full range up to seven oils, giving a wide choice of flavours which may be used for cooking, dipping, drizzling, marinating and more. “We have been working hard to develop new blends which complement our existing range of rapeseed oils,” said Laura Bounds, owner and managing director of Kentish Oils. “Garden Mint is excellent for use in fresh summer salads, the Rosemary with lamb and chicken, and Basil for pastas and Italian-style cooking.” Kentish Oils are available from all good independent farm shops, delis and food halls throughout Kent and the rest of the UK, as well as for home delivery via Amazon and Borough Box.
