CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE LITERARY FESTIVAL 2018 // 6-8 MAY CELEBRATE MAY DAY WITH KENT LIFE // 7 MAY
Chiddingstone Castle is looking forward to delivering another fantastic literary festival when a great new lineup of authors , illustrators , poets and children ’ s performers will be at the castle . Once again , the festival will be sponsored by investment management firm , Brooks Macdonald . The festival programme will offer author talks for adults and teenagers on Sunday 6th May , a wide range of events for families on bank holiday Monday 7th May , and a whole day of children ’ s authors , illustrators and workshops especially for schools on Tuesday 8th May .

NORTH DOWNS WAY 40TH ANNIVERSARY WALKS , CHILHAM TO CANTERBURY // 7 MAY
Whatever your age , come along to Kent Life in Maidstone to celebrate May Day . There will be live music and everyone can watch maypole and Morris dancing throughout the day as well as take part in the grand tug-of-war and have a go at maypole dancing themselves . Watch the delightful annual parade and the all-important crowning ceremony of the May King , Queen , Princes and Princesses . Most of the farm ’ s attractions are included in admission including the indoor and outdoor play areas and the chance to get up close to some of the farm ’ s smaller animals including rabbits and guinea pigs in the cuddle corner .

SOME MOTHERS DO ’ AVE ’ EM // 8-12 MAY
An open group walk organised by Walk Awhile Walking Holidays in conjunction with the North Downs Way 40th-anniversary celebrations . Arrive in the village of Chartham Hatch at midday for a short rest and packed lunch . The walk then passes through No Man ’ s Orchard and emerges at the foot of Bigbury Camp , an Iron-Age hill fort , where it has been suggested Caesar defeated the British / Belgic tribes on the second incursion into Britain in 54 BC . The group will have the opportunity to explore the earthworks and discuss the references to Bigbury and the battle referred to in the Gallic Wars . The final two miles takes the group through Harbledown village referred to as Bobbe-up-and-down in Chaucer ’ s Canterbury Tales ( Manciple ’ s Tale ). At Harbledown the group passes St Nicolas ’ s Chapel . The group will also visit the Black Princes Well . Walk length : 7.5 miles .
