The undisputed Queen of home baking , it seems there really is something about Mary and Mrs Berry ’ s influence hit an all-time high during her last series of GBBO ( summer 2016 ) when the number of households buying home baking products during the series jumped by 9.7 per cent – more than 1.1 million – a sharp rise in budding bakers of over 6 per cent in just two years . Another two years on and it ’ s apparent that our love of loaves , cakes , pies and pastries shows no sign of waning as 2018 figures show that a whopping 52 per cent of us are baking at home at least once a month .
