EDUCATION
CELEBRATING AND INSPIRING FEMALE PIONEERS
BLACKHEATH HIGH SCHOOL WAS THE FIRST PURPOSE-BUILT SCHOOL OF THE
GIRLS’ DAY SCHOOL TRUST, WHICH WAS FOUNDED BY FOUR PIONEERING
WOMEN WHO FEARLESSLY PURSUED THEIR VISION OF PROVIDING
OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIRLS.
At Blackheath High School, we ignore gender
stereotypes. Our girls relish science, art, football
or ballet with equal passion. From STEAM
week to celebrate science, technology,
engineering, creative arts and maths, to a co-
curricular club combining motorcycle
maintenance with philosophy, our focus is
on cultivating our girls’ courage in an open-
minded, forward-thinking atmosphere.
Our girls are spoilt for choice with a mind-
boggling array of clubs, societies and
enrichment activities including law society,
martial arts in Mandarin, and Model United
122
Nations. In addition to this, our Wollstonecraft
lecture series and enrichment programme is
designed solely to foster academic curiosity
and risk taking.
We encourage our girls to achieve and excel.
From alumna and ITV newsreader Charlene
White, to former Olympic water polo player
and parent, Mrs Greer, there is certainly no
shortage of strong female role models to
inspire.
For International Women’s Day, our students’
Feminist Society is hosting a ‘Feminism in
School: #PressforProgress’ conference
with the UCL Institute of Education to address
issues around gender inequality in schools
and how to make them fairer places for all.
At Blackheath High School, we are incredibly
proud of our role in inspiring the next
generation of female pioneers. It is the
#GDSTspirit. It is the fearless
#BlackheathHigh spirit.
