KENT FAMILY TO TACKLE 18 HOURS OF GOLF AND
600KM TO RAISE £10,000
Ten members of a Kent family are aiming
to walk a total of 600km as they target a
fundraising total of £10,000 for Macmillan
Cancer Support.
On top of the 100km Jurassic Coastal Walk
in July, the Ripley family are organising a
100-hole golf day taking place over 18 hours.
Steve Ripley from Ashford, was diagnosed
with prostate cancer in March 2017 and
following surgery and radiotherapy is
currently receiving chemotherapy at
Maidstone Hospital.
Steve’s brother sadly died from bowel cancer
in 2004 and the family received extensive
support from Macmillan. The charity is
now supporting Steve and the family as
he undergoes treatment. Brad Ripley, Steve’s
son, said: “Our family, like so many
others, has been affected over the years by
cancer. Since dad was diagnosed the
support from Macmillan has been great and
his nurses are amazing. As a family we really
wanted to do something to repay the help
we have had.”
The golf day will be held at West Malling
Golf Club and it's likely to take 18 hours to
complete 100 holes. More information is

instructor.
The film features the Oscar, Golden Globe and
Grammy award-winning hit (I’ve Had) The
Time of My Life.
“This is the premiere for our Outdoor Cinema
which we expect to become a regular feature,”
said Nick Gauntlett, executive director of the
Hythe Imperial. “Bring your friends and family

MILLWOOD HELPS MARDEN VILLAGE BLOOM THIS SUMMER
The beautiful village of Marden has sprung
with colour this season thanks to Marden in
Bloom. As part of the wider Britain in Bloom
campaign, the annual event brings local
residents and businesses together to improve
the environment. Award-winning developer,
Millwood Designer Homes has helped to boost
the village’s vibrant plants and flowers this
year, through sponsorship and donations,
inspiring local residents to get involved and
foster a sense of pride in their local community.

Millwood’s donation has contributed to bulb
planting around various areas in the parish, a
new planter at the Medical Centre filled with
herbs, a host of plants at the Memorial Hall (a
key community asset), including box plants
and hydrangeas. Also contributing towards
the Marden Primary School Project, the
funding has allowed strawberry plants,
pumpkins seeds, French bean plants,
containers and compost to be purchased and
planted, to enable the children to learn and
engage with horticulture and the importance
of where their food comes from.
“As a local organisation, we like to develop
strong relationships with businesses in the
area and are delighted Millwood was keen to
get fully on board with us this year,” said Anne
Boswell, chairman of Marden in Bloom. “I
would like to express my thanks for their
generous donation to Marden in Bloom, we
are extremely grateful. Our aim is to tidy and
brighten up our beautiful village, making the
green spaces prettie
