WELCOME For many of us, the ‘most wonderful time of the year’ has turned into the dreary, dreaded first month of the new year. December is a month of overindulgence, and in some cases, full-on irresponsibility, knowing that January and its promise of a fresh new start is right around the corner. We spend December stuffing ourselves with every naughty treat we can get our hands on, spending too much money on unnecessary junk, and not worrying about any kind of balance. Come 1st January, we attempt to behave completely differently, thinking ‘this year will be different’. And then we fail. Resolutions are forgotten, and the next thing we know, it’s December again and we’re lounging in front of the TV with four bags of crisps, two dozen mince pies and a bottle of Bailey’s. Why do we do it to ourselves? Spare yourself the heartache, and dread January no more! This year, instead of making a list of lofty goals that aren’t achievable (admit it, you can’t possibly lose three stone by Valentine’s Day), be good to yourself in 2019 and set simpler goals that can make a big impact on your life. noticeable difference to your attitude, health and morale. For more ideas on small changes that make a big difference, head over to page 91. One thing we should all put on our list of resolutions is to see more of our beautiful county this year. We’re so lucky to live in The Garden of England, so get out there and explore! Flip to page 45 for Visit Kent’s inspirational guide to see, do and eat something new this year in Kent. As we’re not setting ourselves silly, unattainable goals, there will still be room for indulgence in 2019, starting with a visit to some of Kent’s best jewellers (p72). Go on, after all that Christmas shopping, maybe it’s time to treat yourself! We’ve also rounded up some of our favourite spots for cocktails in London – check out page 28 for our list. Whatever your goals and aspirations for the year, we hope it’s a fabulous one, and here’s to your small changes leading to health and happiness in 2019 and beyond.
