February Half Term at
FOLKESTONE QUARTERHOUSE
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN A WONDERFUL WORLD OF IMAGINATION AND RELEASE
YOUR INNER CHILD THIS FEBRUARY HALF TERM, WHEN THE MAGICAL LITTLE
ANGEL THEATRE RETURN TO FOLKESTONE QUARTERHOUSE WITH THEIR
ALTERNATIVE SPIN ON AN OLD FAMILIAR CLASSIC.
Red Riding Hood and the Wolf sees ten-year-
old Robyn turn a beloved fairytale on its head.
Frustrated with the sickly-sweet sugar, spice
and all things nice Little Red Riding Hood,
Robyn retells the tale in her own words and
with both sides of the story. This time, the Big
Bad Wolf isn’t so big or bad at all, just a little
misunderstood. He’s unhappy and lonely as
he finds himself lured to tea by Little Red
Riding Hood and her evil accomplice turned
crazed taxidermist grandma, unaware that
their plan is much more sinister...
Robyn’s creative spirit brings colourful
characters to life, thanks to the contents of her
bedroom. Tennis rackets become trees and
teapots become angry mothers in this made
up world of fantasy, imagination and shadow
puppetry. The rhyming verse and
mischievousness that follows celebrates fairy
tales, the enchanting experiences they provide,
and the ways in which they are told in order
to help us understand the world we live in.
Delightful music, including offerings from a
26
toy piano and tape recorders, teamed with
undeniable humour and an inspirational
theme to never judge a book by it’s cover,
makes for a heartwarming adventure about
two misfits who just want to fit in.
Written by London playwright and
screenwriter, Jon Barton (Oedipus) and
directed by associate puppetry director of the
National Theatre’s War Horse, Jimmy Grimes’
Red Riding Hood and the Wolf is inspired by
Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and his talent
for exploring those ‘what if?’ questions that
life throws at us. Little Angel Theatre manage
to stay loyal to the original story of Little Red
Riding Hood’s roots in childhood, but give it
a radical new spin to create something truly
unexpected.
Cleverly written with dramatic awe and dark
humour, kids young and old are guaranteed
to be enthralled and engaged with this new
offering from the makers of Wow! Said the
Owl. Fun and entertaining, Red Riding Hood
and the Wolf is bursting with imaginative
energy and visual vibrancy, told with creativity
and excitement.
This half term, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf
runs from Wednesday 14th February until
Sunday 18th February with both morning and
