PAN.OPTIKUM
Normal? Festival of the Brain
Bringing science and art together, Normal?
Festival of the Brain takes place from Thursday
10th to Sunday 13th May 2018. Co-curated by
Folkestone Quarterhouse, Living Words and
Folkestone Fringe, with input from the local
community, this year’s festival looks at topics
such as autism, sleep, grief and loss over four
days of discussions, workshops, exhibitions,
talks and performance to wonder at the brain.
Head outside and prepare to be amazed as the
sensational PAN.OPTIKUM return to the UK
with their extraordinary outdoor performance,
Power of Diversity – The Crossing Lines
Project. Following a tour of the UK and Europe
in 2017, working with local young people
across performance art, dance and spoken
word poetry, a selection of these young people
were chosen to head back to PAN.OPTIKUM’s
production site in Freiburg and produce a final
grand performance for the project. This
spectacular free-for-all performance will take
place in Folkestone on Saturday 9th June 2018.
Folkestone’s Creative Quarter opens its doors
and reveals its hidden spaces once again, as
Open Quarter returns in 2018. This year’s
festival will run for ten days from Friday 15th
to Sunday 24th June and invites you to take
a leisurely stroll through Folkestone’s urban
village of designers, makers, technophiles and
artists. Open Quarter gives you the opportunity
to talk to and step inside the world of the
enterprising folk that have chosen to live and
work in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter.
Exploring the unique coastal location of the
region and the communities it sustains, SALT
Festival celebrates the sea and the
environment from Thursday 6th to Sunday
9th September 2018. SALT Festival sees four
days of talks and discussions, workshops,
installations and exhibitions to consider what
the future of the region might hold. Open to
everyone and suitable for all ages, the festival
takes place in multiple locations throughout
Folkestone’s Creative Quarter and Folkestone
Harbour, as well as Folkestone Quarterhouse.
Folkestone Book Festival returns from Friday
16th to Sunday 25th November 2018 and
invites you into the heart of Folkestone’s
Creative Quarter for a ten-day extravaganza
of author talks, thought-provoking
discussions, fantastic music, fun family events,
inspiring workshops and much more! The
programme will be announced at the
beginning of the summer.
Alongside their festivals, Folkestone
Quarterhouse has a packed programme of
magnificent music, thrilling theatre and
captivating comedy to see you through 2018.
