Journeys With ‘The Waste Land’ // Turner Contemporary // Margate // 3 Feb-7 May In 1912, poet T.S Eliot spent a few weeks in Margate to recover. He was fragile, both physically and mentally, and through his recovery in the town he wrote The Waste Land: ‘On Margate Sands/ I can connect/ Nothing with nothing’. This major exhibition at Margate’s stunning Turner Contemporary will explore the significance of The Waste Land through visual arts. By presenting artwork from the 19th century to the present day – including film, photography and artefacts – this exciting exhibition will explore how historical and contemporary art can help us to understand T.S Eliot’s poem further. www.turnercontemporary.org Broadstairs Food Festival Celebrates its 10th Anniversary // 28-30 Sep The Broadstairs Food Festival is always a highlight of the year in Thanet and is a tempting mix of delicious regional food and drink, cooking demonstrations, workshops and plenty of fun, all located within the gorgeous surroundings of Broadstairs. It has been closed for major refurbishment works, but 2018 sees its grand reopening. The refurbishment has celebrated the original Victorian features of the building, ensuring that the original skirting and doors and the traditional wooden sash windows are all put back as they should be. The hotel is a joy, with eight of the bedrooms offering a stunning sea view and all of them decorated in colours that reflect the sea and the local surroundings. A new addition for the Bay Tree Hotel in 2018 is an all-day restaurant which will be open to guests and members of the public. It will offer seasonal, locally sourced dishes using the very best of Kent’s wonderful produce. www.baytreebroadstairs.co.uk Broadstairs Food Festival © Thanet District Council Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum // Manston // from 1 Apr From 1st April 2018, there will be a new addition the the Spitfire & Hurricane Museum in Manston – an amazing 1/1 Spitfire simulator with authentic controls that visitors can actually sit in to get the real experience of what it would have been like to fly in a Spitfire.
