GREAT DAYS OUT, FASCINATING HISTORY, BEAUTIFUL ART… THANET IN 2018 WILL BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER. Royal Harbour History Festival // Ramsgate // 15-17 Jun The Royal Harbour History Festival is a not- for-profit organisation that is hoping to raise money for charities whose work focuses on the regeneration of Thanet. It has been created to commemorate and celebrate the extraordinarily rich and captivating maritime history of East Kent. With invasions (and attempted invasions) dating back thousands of years to the Romans and the Vikings, hundreds of years to the Napoleonic Wars, and even in living memory to WWI and WWII, this three-day festival in the summer of 2018 will offer an insight into how East Kent fared, 52 what happened, and how it changed the area into what it is today. There will be a wide range of attractions and interactive activities and experiences throughout Ramsgate, which are ideal for adults and children to learn more about their very own history. There are so many events going on during this fantastic festival, but one of the main experiences will be the Living History Modules which are designed – and run – by experts who will put passion, heart, and storytelling into their lectures. These talks will cover 2,000 years of history. As well as this, you mustn’t miss the Royal Navy versus Royal Harbour cricket match taking place on the iconic Goodwin Sands, four miles from the coast. Players include Chris Cowdrey, Peter Snow, Dan Snow, Ryan Sidebottom, David Gower and Admiral of the Fleet, Lord Boyce KG GCB OBE DL. And of course, there is the wonderful festival parade, led by the band of the Royal Marines. During this parade there will be flypasts and aerial displays, a Royal Marines concert and a special salute by the Dunkirk Little Ships, who’ll be accompanied by the Royal Navy, RNLI and Spitfires. Tickets will be on sale in early 2018. Please see www.rhhf.co.uk for further details.
