CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE THIS WINTER
CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE’S DIRECTOR, ALI
DITZEL, INVITES HISTORIC HOUSE AND CREAM
TEA ENTHUSIASTS, WITCHES AND WIZARDS,
FESTIVE SHOPPERS, FATHER CHRISTMAS LOVERS
AND NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES TO THE
CASTLE THIS WINTER.
“With one month left of our open season, we’re
welcoming the last visitors into Chiddingstone
Castle and gardens before we close for the
winter,” says Ditzel. “Come along to discover
our unique historic house, its Tudor origins,
Victorian rooms, and exhibitions of ancient
Egyptian, Japanese, Buddhist, Stuart and
Jacobite art and artefacts. Uncover a story of
a gifted collector, unrequited love and
attempted murder. And of course enjoy one
of our scrumptious cream teas. We’re open
from 11am – 5pm from Sunday to Wednesday,
and we’re offering InsideKENT readers a
special 2-for-1 entry on any usual admission
day before 31st October 2017. All you have
to do is present this article at our North Door
to claim this special offer; adult £9.50, child
£4.50 – please note this does not include our
‘Special Event’ days listed below.”
For the very first time, the castle is opening its
doors to the Chiddingstone Castle School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry. For three days
during the October half term (26th-28th), 600
young witches and wizards will be sorted into
76
a house before attending classes around the
castle and grounds including potion making,
choir practice, spell school, and of course,
flying school. Launched last month, the event
has already seen hundreds of people
registering their interest and tickets are selling
out fast!
Why not visit the castle and gardens on
Saturday 25th November for the annual
Christmas Fair (10am – 3pm; admission
charged on the door – adults £5, children £1)
and spend the day shopping for festive gifts
in Chiddingstone Castle’s historic rooms and
heated marquee. With 70 stalls and plenty of
mulled wine and mince pies, they’re sure to
have something for everyone on your list.
The castle is also busy plotting for their special
Victorian Christmas event this December,
featuring the man himself, Mr Father
Christmas. To be the first to hear about this
event, future events and ticket sales, do sign
up to the newsletter on their website –
www.chiddingstonecastle.org.uk.
Chiddingstone is open as usual for wedding
