Maggie has been volunteering with the Hospice for eighteen months, originally as a patient escort on their minibus, and now helping in Magnolia Place, in the Hospice café and regularly at fundraising events. Maggie owned a B&B in West Malling with her husband Dick who sadly died of oesophageal cancer in the Hospice three and a half years ago. It was their experience of the Hospice that led to her becoming a volunteer. The Awareness week, which runs from 9th-15th October 2017, not only gives the Hospice the opportunity to promote their work, but also enables them to highlight and celebrate everyone involved in providing that care. So whether support comes from the Clinical Nurse Specialists and volunteers, counsellors and Family Services Team, physiotherapists and fundraisers, We Are All Hospice Care. “Whatever I can fit in, I will” says Maggie. “When in Magnolia Place, I help organise the quiz and other entertainment, make tea and serve lunches, socialise and help patients to have fun. Generally I try to give patients the best day they can have.” As an independent charity, the Hospice provides support free of charge to those who need it, for as long as they need it. And year on year they look after even greater numbers of people with an increasingly diverse range of complex care needs. It is only with the generosity of donors and volunteers that they are able to do this, which is why they are delighted that the theme of this year’s Hospice Care Week is ‘We Are Hospice Care’. www.hokh.org heartofkenthosp HeartOfKentHospice Registered Charity No: 298164 Maggie Lamb 151
