ROMNEY MARSH WOOLS
SHORTLISTED IN BRITISH
FARMING AWARDS
Romney Marsh Wools have been shortlisted in this year’s British
Farming Awards for Diversification Innovator of the Year (Small to
Medium). The awards, now in their fifth year, recognise the hard
work, innovation and determination of farming to showcase the
achievements of farmers working within the UK agricultural industry.
There are a vast array of farm diversifications emerging, adding
value to farms’ core business, so to be shortlisted in a very
competitive category is a great achievement.
Established in 2008 by Kristina Boulden, Romney Marsh Wools
use fleeces which are hand selected from the family farm’s flock
of 1,000 Romney ewes to produce a wide range of products from
throws and scarves to hand cream and shampoo. These are all
British made and sold locally and nationally both direct to the
customer and through specially selected retail outlets.
Kristina commented: “It is a great honour to have been shortlisted
in the British Farming Awards. There are many hours put in to
the business by the whole family, from lambing right through to
finishing throws and selling the products. To have this hard work
recognised means a lot to all of us.”
The awards will be held on Thursday 19th October in
Birmingham and a full list of finalists may be found at
www.britishfarmingawards.co.uk.
DEMELZA’S FROTHY, FOAMY, FAMILY FUN DRAWS
OVER 700 RUNNERS TO DARTOFORD
Demelza Hospice Care for Children’s hugely
popular Bubble Rush made its return to
Dartford’s Central Park in August with
over 700 runners taking on the 4ft walls of
colourful bubbles along the 4km course.
The sun shone down on the families and
friends of Demelza on Sunday 6 August, at
the event attended by Mayor Cllr Rosanna
Currans and Deputy Mayor Cllr David Mote.
Local Clubbercise instructor, Hannah from
Fleetdown, warmed up the ‘Bubblers’ of all
ages, preparing them for the foamiest run of
a lifetime.
The event, in its third fantastic, frothy,
fabulous year, raised over a phenomenal
£10,000 for the charity, which is based across
South East London, Kent and East Sussex,
with more sponsorship still coming in.

Fairfield Leisure have pledged to award an
annual family swim pass to the highest
fundraiser from the event, which will be
announced in September.
Demelza’s Head of Events, Emm a
Middleton, said: “Bubble Rush epitomizes
what Demelza is all about – fun, laughter
and making memories. It is fantastic fun
for all the family but it does have a serious
purpose – all the money raised goes
to providing vital care and support for
seriously ill children and their families. I’d
like to thank everyone who supported the
event including Dartford Borough Council,
Dartford Harriers Athletic Club, McDonalds
Dartford, Practical Car & Van Rental, Dartford
and Places for People.”
