BOURDAIS STRATEGY
MASTERCLASS
INDYCAR 2018
SEASON OPENER AT
ST. PETERSBURG
The 2018 Verizon Indycar season started
on 11th March at St. Petersburg. The
brand new car for 2018 made it’s debut
and it became clear during the practice
sessions, that the reduced level of
downforce will give hard time to the
more experienced drivers as well!
Despite this, the “rookie” Bruce Wickens
took the Pole and controlled the race for
most of the time. Will Power lost the car
at T2 right after the start, Alexander

Wickens, Sebastien Bourdais was in the
14th position, but with an awesome
strategy, he quickly entered the hunt for
the victory. The race itself had many full
course yellow flags, 2 of them were at in
the last 10 laps, with 3 laps to go, the
6
race
was on again, Rossi came really
close to Wickens, and did what he had to
do: went for the gap, but lost a lot of grip
on the braking and hit Wickens, who
spun and hit the wall…Wickens retired
from the Lead, Rossi lost 2 positions,
with full course yellow for the last 2
laps, no more position changes
happened, Bourdais has won the exciting
season opener.
