MOTORSPORT GLOSSARY PT1
Undercut When you try to get ahead of someone by
pitting earlier than him/her and take
advantage of your fresh tires to eat the
gap to him/her.
Overcut Pretty much the same idea as ‘Undercut’
but instead of trying to gain position by
pitting earlier, you pit later. This can work
if fresh tires doesn’t give that big
advantage.
Pit
Window It means the specific car is so close to you,
that after a pitstop he/she will be ahead of
you.
Cover
somebody When your goal is to be ahead of
somebody after your pit stop.
Dirty Air The turbulent airflow behind a racing car.
The root cause of overtakes being so hard
to pull of.
Slipstream When you are so close to the car ahead,
that you are no longer in the ‘Dirty Air’ so
the car ahead starts to pull your car
closer
