Soko is a manufacturing platform and ethical lifestyle brand, which has designed proprietary supply chain technology that transforms the mobile phone into a powerful business tool, leveraging Kenya’s advanced mobile-based economy. Through a “virtual factory” model Soko empowers artisans from under-served communities, builds skills, helps manage and grow their micro-businesses, and connects them to international consumers. The efficiency of the model, translates into an increased income for some 2,300 independent artisans/workshops (by up to fivefold compared to an average Kenyan artisan workshop) and a human impact on 11,400 beneficiaries, including artisans’ family members. Soko’s model is designed for scale and/or replication. Currently, some 45,000 units can be produced in a month, for e-commerce and large brand purchasing.
