What we loved: Location and luxury; all rooms have ocean views, private decks, fireplaces, three course gourmet breakfasts, and luxurious amenities.
Upon arrival, many guests slip into a plush robe and wander barefoot on their private deck with a glass of chilled champagne and a home-baked cookie. In the morning, after a night of slumber in crisply pressed linen bedding in the wonderful sea air with the gentle murmur of waves outside their window, guests awake to the breathtaking sunrise across Penobscot Bay and a sumptuous breakfast in the sunlit conservatory. After spending the day exploring lighthouses, fishing villages, Camden Hills State Park, Mount Battie, over twenty art galleries and more, return to the inn for a glass of wine in the library – a cozy nook with spectacular ocean views.

What we loved: Once an abandoned landmark, today the inn offers ‘luxe’ accommodations and elegance in a real life-like castle. “Beyond 5 Stars” is the review this inn often receives. The innkeeper, Donna Winner is no stranger to hospitality. Although she began life on simple Mercer County, PA dairy farms, together, with her late husband Jim, their philanthropic efforts have saved many landmarks in their community, the Buhl Mansion being one of them. Managed by niece Laura Ackley the lavish guest rooms, each carefully appointed with modern amenities, are reached by the Grand Oak staircase that leads to the second and third floors. All rooms offer Jacuzzis for two, some with fireplaces and/or views of the courtyard and garden. The onsite spa is a treat for guests with steam room, sauna, monsoon showers, and spa appointments. Great destination for weddings!
