3. Cameo Heights Mansion

What we loved: Guests are pampered with a high level of detail and service.

Guests to the Cameo Heights Mansion think the innkeepers have thought of everything, but owners Alan & Deanne Fielding contend, “No we haven’t; we just listen well.” They always ask how they can improve and they implement what their guests tell them. Reminiscent of an old world country villa, the inn offers seven spacious suites with private baths, air-jetted tubs, gas fireplaces and fine dining in a quiet setting in the heart of Washington wine country.

4. Birchwood Inn

What we loved: Fabulous food, the innkeeper and cookbook author, shares her passion for food with her guests. The inn has been honored with numerous awards including Best Breakfast in New England and Best Savory Breakfast Recipe of the Year.

One guest summed it up…”If a country inn exists in heaven, it’s the Birchwood Inn” and a warm welcome and tantalizing food await all who visit this historic Lenox, MA Inn. All rooms have luxurious, freshly ironed sheets, private baths and lavish, modern amenities. The real treat, however, is the food, starting with the freshest ingredients used in the homemade full country breakfast each morning. And the gastronomic experience doesn’t end at breakfast. After a full Berkshires day, relax with afternoon tea and freshly baked pastries fireside in cool seasons and porch-side during warmer temps. Not to worry, if you don’t want to spoil your appetite for dinner, goodies are often found in the Butler’s Pantry for “Sweet Dreams.”

5. Port d’Hiver Bed and Breakfast

What we loved: A home away from home with a friendly staff and modest owners who make guests feel like part of the family while being pampered.

Steps from the beach, this seaside resort includes beautifully appointed, very comfortable rooms with fresh flowers, turn down service with a treat, evening hors d'oeuvres, full breakfasts, bikes, beach umbrellas and towels, parking, 24 hour soda, water, snacks, coffee and tea, all in anticipation of guests desires. Breakfasts are unique as guests choose from the casually elegant individual seating in the dining room and garden courtyard to complimentary room service on their private deck. In the evening, enjoy a glass of wine and light hors d’oeuvres before dinner while relaxing by the fire under blooming allamanda and bougainvillea in the garden courtyard, or meet other guests and chat with the innkeeper in the cozy living room.
