rian and Debbie Hamilton built their home 10 minutes outside of Cold Lake, Alberta in the village of Cherry Grove, 32 years ago. It was always a busy house raising their

family, with many friends their too. Brian worked at the nearby Air Force base as an architectural designer and he brought fellow service staff home who didn’t have anywhere to go for the holidays.

As the kids grew up and left the nest, Brian and Debbie talked about how to keep the house and possibly run it as a bed and breakfast. They even asked their kids if it was ok to have guests in ‘their’ house, they said, “what would be different” and their children supported them fully. Debbie says “We bought a book; So - you want to be an Innkeeper back in 1999 and soon after opened their doors as Hamilton House Inn. They offer six guest accommodations and a Sun Room that accommodates corporate retreats and weddings.

Brian says, “ We have two acres of grass, gorgeous gardens and colorful trees that has lead to the B&B having a second name called “The Woodland Oasis.” They have a lake three hundred yards from the house with a cabin on a private island. It is a secluded retreat, all you need to bring is your food.

The six rooms are decorated with different themes, the cottage room has a fireplace and the romance room is a favorite for wedding and anniversary couples. This destination is even family friendly with a children’s room that is equipped with bunk beds, sharing the parent’s bathroom.

Breakfast is a celebration of food with; omelets, waffles, mixed fruits, muffins or Debbie’s specialties, her famous peach French toast or eggs benedict, and more. Everything is homemade.

“Most people come to read a book for a few days, collect their thoughts and leave, rested, feeling like a different person. “They definitely have a different look on their face than when they arrived.”

Brian retired last year and offers fishing charters on Cold Lake and has two boats to take guests for big lake trout fishing. In winter they offer XC Skiing with groomed trails and equipment. They are also close to Kinosoo Ridge Ski Resort for family vacations there.

This is definitely a destination that offers fireside cozy to thrilling adventure or a hideaway retreat, all at one address; the best part, the choice is yours!
