riMar Bed and Breakfast sits on the sands of the

famous South Chesterman Beach where tourists

come to relax, surfers ride the waves and storm

watchers gather in the Fall and Winter months. Innkeeper Paula Mason explains, “In the summer it’s a West Coast beach scene…it's a different feeling in the Fall/Winter seasons. Watch a storm blowing in as you sit beside the fireplace reading a book, sipping a cup of hot tea. Wrap up and walk on the beach…with all static energy in the air, there is nothing like it. It makes you feel like there is excitement in the air as the waves are so big.” Paula visited the West Coast of Vancouver Island 17 years ago, loved it, started working and never wants to leave. BriMar offers three luxurious waterfront guest rooms, each with a private bathroom and all very different from each other.

Four steps down from the property you are on the sand. When guests arrive Paula says the usual reaction is, “Oh my gosh look at the view! There are only two B&Bs on Chesterman Beach and we are one of them.”

Breakfast is a culinary event each morning, with baked goods fresh out of the oven accompanied with a fresh fruit plate and organic yoghurt in the center of the table. BriMar sources their food as much as possible from organic Vancouver Island farms. Each morning offers a different entrée, ranging from Paula’s version of Eggs Benedict (a potato patty topped with tomato, spinach, a honey ham slice and poached egg topped with homemade sundried tomato hollandaise sauce) to Blueberry Pancakes. Don’t worry they cater to all dietary types.

After breakfast, Tofino awaits. Some of the activities Paula can arrange for you are Whale Watching with Ocean Outfitters, Surfing Lessons with Tofino Surf Adventures, Paddle Boarding with Tofino Paddle Surf, Scenic Flights with Atleo River Air or yoga with Coastal Bliss Yoga. Dining is heavenly here…recommendations include Sobo for lunch and the new Wolf in the Fog for dinner.

If you’ve never been to Tofino, be sure to put it on your list of things to see and do. “I meet people from all over the world every week; the conversations and connections are extremely stimulating…BriMar is a great place to unwind.”
