nchanting and peaceful are probably some of

the reasons why the Harriman family built their farmhouse along the banks of the Ellis River in

Jackson, New Hampshire in 1893. Today the Inn at Ellis River stands on this property and is owned and operated by Lyn Norris-Baker and husband Frank Baker. This year celebrates their 10-year anniversary as owners. The 22-room inn is set on several acres at the edge of a classic New England village in the heart of the White Mountains. The inn’s rooms and rustic cottage for two are individually appointed with both period furnishings and modern amenities. Many have two-person jetted tubs and or balconies; almost all have fireplaces. The clean mountain air and sound of the nearby river is the perfect backdrop to this retreat. But be warned don’t sleep in! Breakfast awaits and that is something not to miss. Using as many regional products as possible your taste buds are going to love waking up to fresh fruit, homemade granola, and freshly baked sweet breads, muffins, and coffee cake. The second course will include bacon or sausage and maybe you’ll choose a sweet entrée such as a cinnamon crepe stuffed with apple filling and topped with crème fraîche, or pecan praline French toast. If savory is your choice, perhaps you will be offered roasted pepper and vegetable frittata, or Eggs Benedict strudel with fresh asparagus.

They even have a special tab about breakfast with recipes on their website. You can choose all kinds of things to do from the Inn’s Bucket List for the Mount Washington Valley. In winter, ski Jackson’s world class cross-country trails, snowshoe, take a romantic sleigh ride, or choose one of five alpine ski areas nearby. When summer comes, explore the area’s many waterfalls, scenic drives, hiking and biking trails, or enjoy nearby golf, canoeing, kayaking or fishing. With so many things to do, don’t forget to enjoy the Inn’s afternoon treats and relax in cozy game room and pub, atrium-enclosed hot, or in summer, by the river or in the heated outdoor pool. This mountainous oasis is the perfect destination for romantics-at-heart, a weekend getaway, or a skiing or hiking vacation. This fall, don’t miss the scenic foliage, October’s Pumpkin People, or December 13-14, 2014’s Inn-to-Inn Cookie Tour, 13 different inns decorated in their holiday best, sample cookies, candy and savory treats, all for charity. Discover for yourself why this inn is so special!
