obert Baynton-Smith became the innkeeper of the

Wild Swan Inn located in Halliburton, Ontario in

2004. Robert says, “I‘ve always been in the

hospitality business and now I am a one-man-show - I do the cooking, cleaning and managing the property.”

It wasn’t a hard decision to become man-of-the-manor as each of the four bedrooms and baths are beautifully outfitted with fine linens and antiques. Each bathroom has its own whirl pool jacuzzi with a rain shower.

Couples flock here and so do honeymooners, anniversary celebrants, and those just in need of a getaway. “I try and make everyone’s stay special.” It must be Robert’s sense of humor and willingness to listen to his guests. A doctor from Toronto recommends Wild Swan to his patients who are dealing with a loss and are in need of a retreat. Robert takes great pride in telling stories, contributing great conversation, and of course just lets his guests relax and unwind.

It can be quiet in the house until breakfast is served! Guests rave about the food and that is due to Robert’s years of working in the restaurant business. Breakfast is a choice of coffee and teas and fresh squeezed orange or apple juices. It starts off with seasonal fresh berries, amazing yogurt and choice of baked croissant or grain toast. The hot entrée consists of peameal bacon, scrambled eggs and hash browns, or his world famous waffles, eggs benedict,or his blueberry pancakes may pique your interest. Special dietary needs are always adhered to.

Halliburton is also a winter destination and during the cold months dinner is available here at the inn. Guests can preorder dinner instead of going out in the cold. So bring a favorite bottle of wine and sit down for a scrumptious meal and watch Jack Frost through the window! Now that’s a getaway to remember!

Wild Swan was voted “One of the top Bed and Breakfasts in Ontario” by Cottage Life Magazine in 2014 and called Wild Swan “A hidden treasure".

“It's absolutely the people that make this job fun, and everyone is interesting." The repeat customers are a big part of his business. “There are always big hugs and kisses, it's like family coming back,” he laughs.

The B&B is near Killcoo Camp - an International camp for boys -and his international clientele is growing every year. The fan base is growing every year too and Robert undoubtedly is the heart and soul of this special place!
