Inns Magazine Issue 2 Vol. 20 Summer Gourmet 2016 | Page 7

I love spring and seeing the trees and flowers blossom.

I had a fantastic time at a recent Innkeeping event called the AIHP (Association for Independent Hospitality Professionals) 2016 Summit in Nashville Tennessee. It was an incredible come together for this new national innkeeping association. Almost 400 people attended who shared in over 85 educational seminars, 50 vendor booths and 50+ speakers. Pretty cool and impressive results for their first year out of the gate. What was on the forefront of everyone’s mind? Airbnb, yes and was discussed civilly and with vision and direction. And most of the time everyone agreed it was something they should be in the know of! What happens when you get 400 innkeeping related folks under one roof? Its amazing the learning, networking and getting to know people. For me its always the question of how did you come to own your inn? Those stories are always the most fascinating to me.

People from all walks of life decide to change their lives and become an innkeeper. I especially love the leap of faith they take, that’s what they all have in common. But what else is common amongst all of them is, at the heart of all their decisions is the love of hospitality. I’ve interviewed and spoken to hundreds and hundreds of innkeepers, in fact I may now be able to say thousands that has spanned over the last 20 years. The other thing they all have a love for is FOOD.

With a new season all thing are possible

Being that this is our gourmet issue we’ve featured 10 great inns that have shared recipes and their stories of success and affection of food. I hope that you will sit back and even make some of these favorites! I know I will be.

FYI Next year the AIHP Summit is in California, and I can’t wait to do it all over again to network and learn!
