Being that time of year we asked owner Mike Amery, what makes a romantic getaway “romantic”?
“It has everything to do with ambience”, Mike responded, “Romance is a feeling, that, like a diamond, has many facets. Romance emerges from the opportunity to relax, to celebrate, to connect and remember. We simply provide the backdrop for feelings to surface”. “The in-suite couples massage certainly doesn’t hurt either “, he adds with a smile.
And when it comes to ambience it doesn’t get much better. Surrounded by nature, The Inn at Bowman’s Hill nestles on a five-acre gated estate, two miles south of the riverside town of New Hope, across from the 100-acre Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve.
Nationally acclaimed, and featuring just 4 rooms and 4 suites, the inn is proof that ‘good things come in small packages’. All feature king-size beds, frameless glass showers (with steam in the suites), fireplaces and heated whirlpool tubs for two. The tub in the amazing Penthouse even features 300 overhead fiber optic stars – and a shooting star. Six of the rooms have private decks overlooking the grounds.
In spring and summer the inn assumes the aura of a mini-resort as guests lounge alongside the heated pool or soak in the hot tub overlooking pond and forest. Then there are the animals and birds - more than 100 species according to a visiting ornithologist – not counting the free-range chickens that supply your breakfast eggs!
Breakfast is a serious affair; home-baked pastries, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, multiple juices and a choice of 3 different entrées daily, cooked to order by the resident chef.
New Hope is a year-round tourist destination, less than 90 minutes from Manhattan and just 45 minutes from Philadelphia. Known for its history and close association with the arts, here you can find live music venues, galleries, year-round Equity Theater and a range of dining options. Add biking, hiking and kayaking and you have the ideal backdrop for an activity-filled, romantic getaway.
