As a bed and breakfast guest you also receive free admittance to the sanctuary and a guided tour. It is an 80-acre sanctuary that is home to over 60 wolves. Dawn’s partner, Darin Thompkins oversees a lot of the sanctuary’s daily operations. He explained that, “Different packs of wolves live together in 30 enclosed acres of the sanctuary.” Not all wolves are agreeable to living together so the staff and volunteers have to ‘try to match’ wolves with each other, this may take some time but in the end they want harmony in the sanctuary. All wolves are quarantined when they arrive and are thoroughly health checked to ensure they are illness free once they are admitted into the enclosed area. Volunteers and donations are very essential to the day-to-day operation of The Wolf Sanctuary of PA. After your tour make sure to visit the gift shop and all proceeds go towards the sanctuary for its day-to-day operation. For those looking to donate there’s no better place than the Adopt a Wolf program. You can choose online which wolf you’d like to support and you receive a detailed account on your adoptee.

One of the most unique experiences to behold when you stay at Speedwell Forge Bed and Breakfast is you can hear the wolves howling from your accommodation. Even into the night, under the stars you’ll hear them communicate to each other. As Dawn and Darin comment, “Some nights the wolves have more to say than others!” Very cool indeed!
