Howling

ou sometimes wouldn’t put the words ‘cool’ and ‘bed and breakfast’ in the same

sentence. But let me tell you there is a B&B that fits that description…and it is cool for many reasons, Speedwell Forge is located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and it started as a Wolf Sanctuary, that is where the cool part comes in! It is the first bed and breakfast wolf sanctuary in America. Yes that’s right, wolves live several hundred yards away from the accommodations. It began as a wolf rescue/sanctuary in 1980 by the Darlington family, as wolves are not allowed to live as house pets in Pennsylvania.

Year’s later in 2005 daughter Dawn Darlington returned home to oversee the sanctuary and to restore the original 1760 stone mansion. It had been vacant for 20+ years and after three years of refurbishment they opened Speedwell Forge Bed and Breakfast. The bed and breakfast just celebrated 10 years of business and offers six accommodations that include three rooms in the mansion and three cottages.

The accommodations are beautifully appointed and offer a variety of amenities from; fireplaces, to whirlpool tubs, kitchenettes and all guests are treated to a yummy breakfast each morning in the formal dining room.
