Honeymoon-Worthy Escapes in California for Under $200

California is a popular destination for honeymooners, but a night in a suite at some of the bigger hotels can cost more than a wedding dress. A romantic getaway doesn’t have to break the bank. We found several celebration-worthy stays at California inns for under $200 a night. With beautiful settings, romantic rooms and thoughtful extras, these inns are sure to provide a memorable (and affordable) stay for newlyweds, anniversary celebrations and other romantic getaways.

Joshua Grindle Inn

The Northern California coastline offers a breathtaking backdrop for a honeymoon or romantic escape. Perched on a knoll overlooking Mendocino village, the Joshua Grindle Inn also offers a great value. All of the rooms in this historic B&B feature sitting areas and include a full breakfast; some have fireplaces and jetted tubs. There are several guest rooms available for under $200, including the Library Room with a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Couples can explore Mendocino’s shops and restaurants, the beach at Big River, nearby hiking trails through the redwoods, or simply enjoy the inn’s two acres of gardens and stunning cypress trees.

Carter House Inns

Further north on the redwood coast, the Carter House Inns in Eureka unites contemporary good taste with the gracious elegance of a bygone era. The collection of four, beautifully restored Victorians features opulent furnishings, locally-sourced food and an award-winning wine list. Queen rooms in the Hotel Carter start at $189 per night and include a glass of wine at check-in, hors d’oeuvres in the afternoon, tea and cookies at night, and an elegant breakfast the next morning. Select rooms feature jetted tubs or fireplaces. The inns are located in Eureka’s historic district and is just blocks from Humboldt Bay.
