fter spending time touring B&Bs in the southeast and looking at the how, what, when, and why of operating a B&B, Bob and

Shirley Price chose to take what they learned and open The Foxtrot Bed and Breakfast. Shirley completed her Culinary Arts degree. Her French-style cooking, learn at her mother’s side, helped her win awards and focused her desire to create a quality culinary experience at The Foxtrot. Both Shirley and Bob had worked in New Orleans where food is an absolute art. Wanting to bring that experience to the inn, they created a hybrid of the New Orleans food “jazz” and the comfort of down- home, southern cooking.

They bought their property in Gatlinburg, Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Shirley says, “We bought it because of the spectacular view.” Built in the 1982 at 2400 feet above sea level, its balconies and decks present an every changing view of the National Park. Keeping the river stone and Swiss architecture, they renovated to offer 4 luxurious rooms/suites with private baths. Suites have balconies that overlook the mountains majesty. Each room is equipped with a Smart TV and wifi, but you can also unplug and find a quiet corner to enjoy a book from of The Foxtrot’s 3,000 volume library. They have combined food and the mountains together to create an absolute experience.

A three-course gourmet breakfast begins each morning. Breakfast might be a baked apple with heavy cream, followed by sheared eggs Florentine with Benton’s bacon accompanied with grilled tomato and asparagus, and white chocolate bread pudding finishes your feast. Shirley has written a cookbook Breakfast in the Clouds that you can buy on their site. They offer a cooking school January, February and March each year. Topics vary each year and include topics like quick breads, crème brulee, and charcuterie.

Celebrating The Foxtrot’s 10th anniversary in 2015, Bob and Shirley plan some interesting additions and specials. Check the website for these specials during the month of May and throughout the year. Over the years that they spent as innkeepers, Bob and Shirley have tried to provide a calm, peaceful place to retreat from modern life. “It’s been an experience to see the world pass thru our door”.
