arcia and Kent Neigebauer looked at 12 inns to purchase on the west side of the Michigan state and decided they wanted be closer to the
Chicago area. Kent retired from law enforcement and Marcia left her career in banking and together they bought the Delano Inn, which took them a year to find. Even their daughter, who is an architect said “This was the one to buy!” It was built in 1863 and Marcia points out to guests it was built during Lincoln’s lifetime. The Cubical Italianate-style home offers six beautifully appointed guest accommodations that offer charm and romance suited for everyone’s tastes. Each room is spacious and offers a fireplace and most have a whirlpool. The lovely antiques and architectural details throughout the house have been lovingly restored and cared for. Guests can enjoy all the inns amenities or explore the nearby ski hills, golf courses and wineries in and around the Allegan area.
Special occasions are really celebrated here and they offer wonderful wedding and engagement packages to choose from. Kent has become the resident photographer and recently photographed a 60 person wedding held at the inn that was themed from the 1920’s. Marcia says she so enjoys the weddings and says, “It fun to see the happy couples.” The property sits on an acre and there is a beautiful gazebo in the backyard that is perfect for couples to be married in.
Marcia worked at restaurants as a student and that is where she began her love of cooking.
Breakfast is a definite treat and choices range from savory to sweet. Marcia’s specialty is creating elegant breakfasts. It could be the Apple and Pear Compote with an Apple, Ham and Cheddar Strata with locally made maple sausages. Perhaps you’re lucky enough to enjoy her Blueberry Oatmeal French Toast with a Maple Rum Sauce. Marcia loves to use sophisticated recipe books and one of her favorites is the Art of Breakfast, How to Bring B&B Entertaining Home.
You will be pleasantly surprised when breakfast is presented on special red plates from Germany with your name written around the rim in her homemade chocolate syrup, one of the many elegant touches that make the Delano Mansion Inn, a destination above the rest!
