History and Objectives Elvingston Science Centre ’ s objective is to provide a unique , innovative business environment , supporting a growing nucleus of high-tech , knowledge-based companies . The Centre is designed to enhance the technological and economic growth potential of East Lothian , Scotland .
The Elvingston Science Centre was established in 1997 and promotes the commercialisation of University spin-outs and the incubation of new high-technology companies with prospects of rapid growth .
The first 10,000 square foot unit was developed by Scottish Enterprise , East Lothian Council and Simpson Research Ltd . Unit Two will substantially add to the lettable space currently available .
Progress to Date Since the Centre opened , it has an average occupancy rate of over 80 % and is currently 100 % occupied . The centre has generated more than 1,500 technology-based jobs and is still growing ! Simpson
Research Ltd , site owner and manager , is also involved in several ‘ virtual ’ incubation companies in different locations .
Direct links with United Kingdom Science Park Association ( UKSPA ) and United Kingdom Business Incubation Limited ( UKBI ) are well established and will help support industry-wide best practices . The Centre works closely with the many universities in Scotland – Edinburgh Napier , Heriot Watt and Edinburgh University .
Companies at the Centre
Elvingston Stud Elvingston Stud produces quality sports horses for top competition , and talented all-rounders for pleasure riders . Its breeding horses are hand-picked for temperament , conformation and ability to ensure the highest standard of youngstock . The staff at the stud have a wealth of experience in the equine world – showjumping at National level , showing , dressage , cross-country , backing , schooling and bringing on horses of all abilities , and even film work .
