About Liverpool Science Park Liverpool Science Park ( LSP ) is a not for profit company owned by Liverpool John Moores University , the University of Liverpool and Liverpool City Council . As an urban science park situated at the heart of a vibrant city , tenants benefit from being within walking distance to many of Liverpool ’ s strategic knowledge assets .
Being located within the city ’ s flourishing Knowledge Quarter offers innovative businesses the perfect environment to grow faster than anywhere else . The park is less than ten minutes ’ walk from Liverpool Lime Street railway station as well as the city centre and has excellent connections by road , rail and air .
Liverpool Science Park is made up of two buildings , Innovation Centre 1 ( ic1 ) and Innovation Centre 2 ( ic2 ) offering 120,000 sq ft of highspecification grade A accommodation and laboratory space . The new state of the art wing of ic1 opened in 2014 and comprises a further 40,000 sq ft of commercial laboratory and office space to meet the growing demand from the city region ’ s knowledge based businesses .
Tenant Community Liverpool Science Park is home to a rich variety of knowledge-intensive businesses . The 68 companies at the park span sectors including healthcare , life sciences , IT , digital and creative and professional services . Tenants include global consumer manufacturer Unilever , regenerative medicine company Videregen , the Astrophysics Research Institute ( run by Liverpool John Moores University ) and educational web application developer Angel Solutions .
Most recently , the park has launched Campus Central which offers hot desks and flexible furnished office accommodation to provide the perfect eco-system to foster a collaborative business community . From start ups to those looking to expand their business to incorporate a Liverpool base , Campus Central offers flexible terms and spaces to promote organic collaboration between companies .
Innovation Hub
R & D support Liverpool Science Park continues to strengthen its links with its two academic owners Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool . More and more of its tenants are realising the benefits of working alongside academics and jointly accessing R & D grants .
For example , Unilever works closely with departments from the University of Liverpool , including engineering and chemistry as well as the Centre for Materials Discovery to aid research into personal and homecare products . Strong links to the universities also enabled Karm Research Group to secure funding through the Government ’ s funding body , Innovate UK .
These links are reinforced through both university Vice Chancellors , Professor Janet Beer of the University of Liverpool and Professor Nigel Weatherill of Liverpool John Moores University , having a position on the board .
Thriving Knowledge Quarter Liverpool Science Park is located at the hub of the metropolitan HopeStreet area which is home to a diverse range of restaurants , hotels and bars as well as Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and both the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King and Anglican Cathedral .
Ambitious projects happening in the area include the University of Liverpool ’ s Materials Innovation Factory and Bio Innovation Hub . Work to redevelop the Copperas Hill building into a connected university village by Liverpool John Moores University is also coming to fruition and the new Royal Liverpool Hospital is quickly taking shape and will be ready for summer 2017 .
