enough that there are usually more than one in their size.
What started out as a simple Facebook group has turned
into a neighborhood phenomenon with over 3,200 members.
He’ll post a bike size that’s needed and the next day ten will
show up in the driveway. People have gone picking to find
these bikes and drop them off, garbage men kept an eye out
and delivered their findings. People are dropping bikes off
daily, even when Shawn was recovering from surgery. Others
offer to help in picking up bikes that Shawn’s been tipped
off to. Donations range from bikes to parts, to funds to help
set up Spokes of Hope as a non-profit, as well as shirts and
stickers to be printed to raise more awareness. What makes
it all worth it for Shawn? Seeing the kids get their bikes and
the happiness and attachment that comes along with it. It’s
watching a shy child light up at the sight of their new bike
and how each experience is a different and unique moment.
