Emery Ruth is a self-made woman and
brilliant, innovative designer. Her heart
strings, love, life, trials, and tears are
all poured into her work. With humble
beginnings in her home in the Midwest,
Emery started an Etsy shop, featuring
accessories such as her pentagram hoops
and studded headband, which quickly
became top sellers. Then came her infamous
studded beanie. Her home became her
workshop and she spent hour after hour, day
after day creating these items as they quickly
came into high demand.
Emery’s love for design began at a young
age. Her mother was a great seamstress but

lacked the creativity of designing new things
out of the old as Emery did. She would look
at a table cloth and see a dress, knowing
where she wanted the pockets and straps.
Emery would created the design and her
mother would put it together, later teaching
Emery how to sew on her own. She began
creating original pieces from used fabrics
and older pieces. Later, these designs would
be hosted on her Etsy site. Emery had the
ability to turn rags into stunning pieces of
fashion statements.
The original name of Emery’s brand
was Guts Glam & Glory. With the help of
Instagram and the link to her Etsy shop on
her account, GGG took off and attracted
the attention of some ladies who owned a
clothing store in New York City. Ready for
a change, although she knew it cause a
strain on her relationship and finances (she
was working as a massage therapist at the
time), she took their offer to fly out and meet
with them to talk about featuring her line,
which would later grow in their store, Grit
& Glory. After talking and deciding that the
collaboration of her work and hosting it in
the store located on Manhattan’s Lower East
Side, it was settled and Emery made the
choice to pick up and head to New York to
make her dreams take flight.
