Speaking of someone that has dedicated their life to art and tattooing, our “Positive Spin” editor, Kate Monahan interviewed Anna Melo, a tattoo artist with a humble heart and a love for the art. Her story is inspiring, full of passion and determination - qualities similar to our cover story. In music, Global Dance Festival 2015 once again raised the bar of another epic year of Electronic Dance Music festivities. Our new EDM Editor, Chad Allen covered the event with photography from their resident photographer and our Creative Director, Sean Hartgrove. Seemingly impossible, Global just keeps getting better, year after year, with fresh new talent combined with prominent names in the EDM world. Earlier this year, I had the honor of interviewing living legend and one of Japan’s most revered tattoo masters, Kazuo Oguri, respectfully known as Horihide. In the midst of the Summit Tattoo Invitational in Breckenridge, Colorado, and with the help of a translator, the man known as the pioneer responsible for introducing traditional Japanese tattooing techniques into Western tattoo culture, specifically with Sailor Jerry and Ed Hardy, humbly and nostalgically tells us his story. This was his last voyage to the United States, and we are privileged to hear his story firsthand. Since he has retired from tattooing and dedicates his time to art, we decided that a Horihide original would be the perfect cover. This month, our art section brings a fresh and different perspective. It’s an expression of paradoxical existentialism, with an article by our new Art Editor, Joseph Findeiss. The words in our fashion section are also brought to you by Joseph, who writes about the renovation and reinvention of fashion by a company known as Rewilder. Their goal is to repurpose post-industrial salvageable materials into fashionable items, mainly purses. The two ladies who run this company are on a mission to change the face of fashion and its reliance on mass-manufacturing while saving the planet, one repurposed purse at a time. and illustrationism. Our European Editor, Ákos also interviews popular tattooed models, Lusy Logan & Lucie Clément, with a set featuring both of them by Fabou Photography. In our “Interview” section, I host a Q&A with bombshell and body modification goddess, Keighla Night, with gorgeous photography by Billy Ward. Issue 35 is one that meshes the old with the new, the traditional with the new age, and the juxtaposition that it plays to bring us into the world of tattoo culture and lifestyle that we are immersed in today. It is a celebration of renovation, as well as the roots that have propelled our beloved industry and culture into what it is today. With this old-school and new-school, I ask you the question as I always do, “what ‘InkSpires’ you?” Signed, Your Chief Editor- Candies Deezy Liu Ákos Bánfalvi interviews Italian tattoo artist, Cristian Restivo, who describes his work as new school, with elements of neo-traditional InkSpiredMagazine.com 3
