he sat back,
and had one
of those, “wow,
that actually
came out really
awesome,” moments. From there,
he kept on snapping
shots of urban areas,
and later upgrading
cameras.
An on the road time
killer turned into a full
blown passion, which Acey
explained is the joy of the
process. His appreciation of
the hunt. An animal lover, Acey
doesn’t condone the killing of
animals, but explained he understood the love of the hunt, it was
how he shot - his camera. There
is no guarantee that you’ll go out
and get something, nail that perfect
shot, but when you stumble upon that
right place and get that shot that he
may have waited all day for, it makes it
all worth it. The waiting, the finding, and
when he does get the shot, it’s just that
much more rewarding.
In his current book, all the photos are shot in
the U.S., but while recently being on tour with
Dope in the U.K., Acey managed to get some
more great shots and do more urban exploring,
not stateside. And as I was saying about the
waiting and reward, sometimes you don’t always hit
the target. In Hungary, Acey heard of and found an
abandoned hospital and asylum and right when he
found a spot to jump the gate, he spotted a security
guard. Although he didn’t get the shot, he did get the
experience. Just like in his music, there are no limits,
Acey is always in motion. His art is in movement, sound,
and bringing the dead and abandoned culture back to life
through film and doing it himself.
