Spotlight Interview (continued from 7)

Lindsay Walls-Ott '16

Q: You won an award for your poetry; do you write in other forms? What is it about poetry that draws you to the form?

A: I DO write in other forms, but poetry is something I love. I am currently working on a novel (or two), and sometimes it’s hard to sit down and focus on just that. Which is why I love poetry, because for me it just flows so freely. So thinking is almost not necessary. I’m directing a play that I wrote called “Still Here” for Student Written Play, which has been an interesting experience to say the least.

Q:What has been the greatest thing that writing has given you?

A:Writing has given me a lot it seems, but it all boils down to an outlet and a way to express myself in an indirect way. Which can be helpful at times. Especially with Spoken Word, you let so much off your chest without really getting down the specifics if you don’t want to.

Q:What do you do when you aren't writing? What other hobbies do you have?

A:When I’m not writing, I’m doing homework, or it feels that way. I really enjoy cooking and baking, so I end up doing that a lot, too. I’m also an extreme bookworm (oxymoron?), so I read everywhere. Outside, on the swings, in my room, on my couch, you name it.
