In addition, the data Ingenuity collects from
the arts organizations that partner with CPS
schools help to provide a snapshot of those
partnerships. The report explores the nature
and distribution of these partnerships and
how they have changed over time.
The report concludes with an overview of two
elements of CPS’ arts education environment
that are not directly connected to the data
used to calculate the school ratings: the
funding environment for the arts in CPS and
an overall assessment of progress on the CPS
Arts Education Plan. To provide a picture of
the funding environment for arts education in
CPS, Ingenuity collected data from the funding
community, including prominent private
and corporate philanthropic funders of arts
education, and from the district. A summary
of the findings from these data is presented,

followed by a discussion of the progress that
has been made toward implementation of
the Plan. Of the Plan’s 36 recommendations,
some have clearly been implemented, while
others are in progress or describe efforts that
will require ongoing attention and cannot be
understood as being “achieved” at a particular
point in time.
The report would not be possible without the
work done by the hundreds of Arts Liaisons*,
CPS teachers, community arts partners,
and funders who contribute to positive
institutional change toward a quality arts
education for every CPS student. Ingenuity
is grateful for their support in the critical
mission of bringing the arts to every student,
in every grade, in every Chicago public school.
