The Norwegian Standards for Mechanical
Completion
The Norwegian Technology Standards Institution
(NTS) has developed the national standards
for Mechanical Completion, which is referred to
as the “NORSOK STANDARD”. The standards,
developed by NTS with participation from industry
define the principles and structures of mechanical
completion and commissioning.
The overall goal of the NORSOK mechanical
completion and commissioning standards is to
verify and document that a system is designed
and built to fulfil specified requirements.
1. Completion phases:
• Definition phase,
• Engineering phase,
• Suppliers completion phase,
• Construction/assembly phase,
• Responsibilities,
• Common Requirements,
• Documentation,
• Project Completion System, and
• Planning.
2. Mechanical Completion:
• Documentation of the MC Package,

3. Commissioning:
• Typical commissioning preparation
activities,
• Commissioning procedure content,
• Health/Environment/Safety, and
• Commissioning documentation and
handover to the operator.
The Malaysian Standard on Mechanical
Completion
At present there is no national standard developed
in Malaysia on Mechanical Completion. However
there are some standards relating to the oil and
gas industry involving materials and equipment.
Normally, Malaysia adopts the relevant ISO standards
as guidelines for the industry’s requirements.
SIRIM Berhad always supports and welcomes any
applications from the industry if the industry players
believe that the Malaysian Standard on Mechanical
Completion is important and would be beneficial to
the industry and the nation.
