New Characteristics of Education
Investments generally aim at bringing about
maximum economic output. But in the field of
education, investments should first be made in
basic education. Then innovative talents can be
fostered according to established priorities and
development programmes. For education to go
ahead, talents are the most critical. - Lau Leong
Future universities should have a new
characteristic of openness. The economy is
being globalised, while education is being
internationalised, especially universities. Tsinghua
University has launched a campaign along with 15
other excellent Asian universities to establish an
Asian University Union at Tsinghua University. The
purpose of the Union is to explore common Asian
values and increase the global discourse power
of Asian universities. Higher education should
not have just one voice, and many of the oriental
education thoughts merit being passed on and
cherished.- Qiu Yong
“Change” and “Constancy” in Education
Education should be oriented to students. Despite
the rapid development and growing importance of
online and digital education, classroom education
and face-to-face teaching are still very important
where interaction is the core. This helps to improve
teachers’ teaching skills and methods. - Shun
Korenaga

mode of education, and the point is how to
teach and how to extend classroom education.

thirdly, change from specialty education
to holistic education, to shape students’

this should be reflected in all education
activities, inside or outside classrooms. -
Lau Leong
Reform is not to deny the original classroom, but
training should not only be focused on specialists
but also generalists who are able to cope with
change. - Li Jiange
Online Education Will Not Replace
Classroom Education
Online education is a supplement to classroom
education and cannot replace it. Therefore,
interaction should be enhanced in education,
and importance be given to face-to-face
teaching in classrooms. Classroom education
should be extended to enterprises and to places
where graduates work so that the society and
entrepreneurs participate in the course of
education. Online and classroom education should
be integrated with career education. - Lau Leong
It is very likely that children will not have to go
to school in the future but study online and then
take exams at school. In the next ten years, 50%
of the occupations in South Korea will most likely
