Prior to July 2015, the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) only registered graduate and professional engineers (P.Eng.). An amendment to the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (Revised 2015), has extended the registration to include engineering technologists, inspector of works (IOW), and a higher category of professional engineers, i.e. professional engineers with a practicing certificate (PEPC).
