Proceedings of the Roundtable Discussion / Colloquium
in the logistic industry and physical connectivity work such as transportation , warehousing and IT talents .
As the organiser of today ’ s Roundtable Discussion , we have taken the liberty to assign the theme of the Colloquium - “ ACPECC Vision 2025 ”. This theme has reference to the “ ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 ”, a 10-year prospective plan agreed by ASEAN leaders at the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Summit . It outlines the aspiration of all AMS to take AEC to an inclusive and progressive , people centric common market as well as a borderless production base by deepening and broadening regional integration .
The outcome of Cross Border Trade in Engineering , Technology and Innovation Services is the delivery of CPC 8673 : Integrated Engineering Services ; carried out by the Engineering Team that consists of three to four categories of “ engineering practitioners ” [ a term used by the International Engineering Alliance ( IEA )], or alternatively , “ engineering services professionals ” the term used in ASEAN MRA . The integrated engineering services
( CPC 8673 ) practised both the Demand and the Supply sides of the project delivery equation . On the Demand Side , Integrated Engineering Services is practised as : Project Management Consultancy Services ; and on the Supply Side , Integrated Engineering Services is practised as : Engineering , Procurement , Construction and Commissioning ( EPCC ) Services .
In line with the “ ACPECC Vision 2025 ” theme , it is hoped that our work and effort in the coming years , will be directed towards generating suitable and relevant deliverables to meet the expectations of the AEC Blueprint 2025 .
I must say that ASEAN Member States have done well in taking various initiatives to move towards the goal of a highly integrated and cohesive region , as well as staying competitive , innovative and dynamic . However , in spite of the current global economic situation , ASEAN has attracted much attention from developed nations in view of her higher growth potential in the global context . The Asian Development Bank ( ADB ) reports of the need for US $ 8 trillion to develop ASEAN ’ s infrastructure in the
next 20 years . This signifies great potential and bodes well for engineering services in this sector .
The One Belt One Road initiative backed up by the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank ( with a fund size of US $ 100 billion ) and the Maritime Silk Road Fund ( with US $ 40 billion ) will focus on massive infrastructure work in countries along the belt and road . Particular focus will be given to the ASEAN region in view of its strategic geographical location , political stability and economic growth potential . This massive infrastructure development works will need strong participation from the engineering fraternity .
It is thus vital that ASEAN Member States work in full collaboration for greater synergy in respect of engineering services and mobility of professionals in order to cope with demand and sharing of resources and expertise .
In light of this new opportunity , we should also be mindful of the level of professionalism and skills in meeting the above challenges . It is our duty as ASEAN engineering professionals to
