Photo of Old Bentong Road upgrading works in 1940s using the
old method of macadam road construction. Crushed stones of
100 to 150 mm sizes that were manually laid and rolled with
steam roller were commonly used in the olden days. Note the
cloud of steam generated behind the roller and the small chimney
discharging smoke from burning coal.
