Clients and designers should recognise that construction hazards arise as by-products of their businesses . More often than not , contractors have limited options to control hazards on their work sites . Hazards can be more sustainably avoided , eliminated , or controlled in the pre-construction phase of the project , and hence the roles of clients and designers in managing these hazards cannot be understated . The construction industry should also realise that collectively making changes and playing a bigger role in improving safety and health levels can also increase profitability , increase productivity , improve worker ’ s satisfaction and improve overall quality .
Summary
Over the years , DOSH has carried out various efforts to reduce the number of people killed as a result of construction work . Despite safety and health initiatives by DOSH , other authorities and the industry , the construction site remains dangerous . What is more worrying is that almost all of the deaths and injuries that occurred were foreseeable and preventable . Currently , DOSH is committed to improving safety and health in the construction industry by focusing on high risk activities and other initiatives outlined in the Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan 2016-2020 .
Securing safety and health in the construction industry is a huge task , and all stakeholders ( clients , designers and contractors ) in the industry must work hand in hand to bring about changes and improvements The proposed Guidelines of Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry ( Management ) is the key to driving improvement in safety and health in the construction industry .
