Music to my ears.

Georgia Gavriilidou

The majority of teenagers listen to music in order to relax and forget their problems. A lot of them may do this passionately and this can affect their everyday lives in a number of ways. Quite often teenagers are influenced by the kind of music they listen to, which often defines their lifestyles.

According to Jae Allen’s article ‘How Does Music Affect Teenagers' Emotions?’, music can help teenagers identify, process and express their emotions. She says: ’’Listening to a certain type, or types, of music can give teenagers access to a peer group of other teenage listeners. A shared love of music gives those in the group a common interest and a basis for friendship, which has many potential emotional benefits.’’ The writer also supports the idea that music is an inseparable part of our lives since with all the variety of its forms, it influences people of any age and social groups, in all times.’’ Music often helps teenagers to find their personal style but sometimes it may have bad influence because some songs have lewd lyrics.

Music affects teenagers in their daily routines and may have good or bad influence on them. It can be a helpful tool in a number of ways but have to realize that we should set limits to the degree of dependency and the role of music into our lives.
