Kyle Louw:

South Africa has eleven official languages which means diversity is one of our greatest advantages. This shines through in our performance poetry and the spoken word scene.

From ‘Skywalker the Stuntman’ whose stage presence and energy cannot be matched, to ‘Romeo the Poet’ whose views on god and love have the power to convert even the darkest soul to a place of inspiration. Let’s not forget ‘Monomania’ whose conversational style of performance usually brings an audience member or two to tears.

Cape Town’s poetry is growing from strength to strength, there is the InZync powerhouse based in Stellenbosch who host slams that easily pull 400+ eager ears to each event. The InZync sessions are like walking into a church, the poets are considered the preachers and the audience a willing and tentative congregation of all ethnic backgrounds and upbringings.
