IGE: How come you decided to focus on such realistic story? Were there huge obstacles on that way?

Tobias WH: We have chosen this period and realism because we wanted to talk about a huge and important part of European history. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance we are talking about the Civil War (Hussite Wars) in 15th century Europa that raged in the Holy Roman Empire. Czech Republic or Bohemia back then was the main country of the HRE and ruled from Prague. We want to introduce the players to this extremely interesting, bloody and intriguing part of European history. A great advantage is that our Studio is located in Prague, so we can actually visit all the locations (approx. 50km south of us) that we show in the game. No one ever tried to show medieval life as it was – at least not in video games. Many RPG’s use the medieval setting but showing realistic combat and realistic medieval lifestyle is something unique. It’s just the gap we have chosen for ourselves.

We actually want to show how 15th century life looked like. What people talked about, what they feared, how did daily life look and such. The balance between realism and fun gameplay is our everyday struggle. We are trying to make a game that is as realistic as possible but it stays “just a game”. So of course we have to make compromises. Our full time historian we have in the studio is fighting every day with our creative director Dan Vávra. She wants a game that is as realistic as possible. he wants a game that is as kickass as possible. We believe that we found the best balance in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

IGE: Do you have any funny stories for us, on the road for historical accuracy?

Tobias WH: Game development is serious business! :)

IGE: Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer, Tobias?

Tobias WH: Definitely a hunter but I actually enjoy going to the woods to collect mushrooms :)

IGE: Thanks for taking the time Tobias! I`m super excited for this game, and from what ive seen this will truly become an amazing experience!
