of yoga for a handful of specific medical
conditions, including strokes, PTSD and
cancer. She now focuses almost entirely on
the program she started when working on
one such research study, YES to Vets (Yoga
Education and Service).
It seems so fitting, in a way, that Nancy’s
yogic path would lead her almost full circle,
back to yoga as therapy. What began rather
nonchalantly, yet sincerely, as a practice to
help her relieve her own physical discomfort has led her back to yoga as therapy. The
only difference is that this time, the focus
is less on the physical body and more on
the breath and gentle, mindful movement.
But, the end result is very similar to what
she herself found: The practice of yoga is a
wonderful tool for helping one’s own self,
and not just in the physical sense. ■
