1. Is the story well written?

2. Are there any distortions or omissions of history?

3. Is there any stereotyping in the text of the ethnic group being portrayed?

4. Are the illustrations authentic and non-stereotyped?

5. Are lifestyles of the characters culturally accurate?

6. Is the dialogue used culturally authentic?

7. Are standards of success consistent across cultures?

8. Are the role of females, elders, and family culturally accurate?

9. Are the effects to a child's self-image taken into consideration?

10.Are the author's and illustrator's backgrounds relevant to the culture portrayed?
