his holiday season look for figure
skating gold medalist Tara Lipinski
at Hotel del Coronado, and a
few lucky skaters will join her for
sessions on the seaside skating
rink. It’s been a busy year for Tara,
who’s part of the pop culture power couple
with her best friend and Olympic skater
Johnny Weir, as the two dazzled the world
with their stellar figure skating commentary
and striking fashion at the 2018 Winter
Olympics. It’s her first trip to The Del
and she’s filled with yuletide spirit and
excitement about skating at The Del.
You won a gold medal at the Nagano
Olympics in 1998, not to mention, you
were the youngest person in Winter
Olympic history to win at age 15.
Looking back, how does that make you
feel? Old! [She laughs.] It was a long
time ago and it feels like I’ve lived two
lives since. As a little girl I dreamed of the
Olympic Games. A gold medal was on my
mind on a daily basis. When it happened,
it was a surreal moment —you just can’t
believe it’s happening. I will cherish those
memories of being a part of the Olympics
forever. When you’re proudly standing
on podium with the flag raised and the
national anthem playing, you realize it’s so
much bigger than your sport.
