How to SUPERCHARGE
Christmas bonuses and rewards
Christmas is known as the season of goodwill and a
perfect time to recognise and reward the hard work of
staff during the year. According to our research, the “ideal” value of
a Christmas reward or incentive to improve
motivation is £686.
The value of recognising workers with bonuses,
incentives and tangible tokens of gratitude is manifold,
and it’s clear that rewards increase motivation, loyalty,
morale and staff retention. Limited Bonus Pot
In fact, 83% of British workers say that being thanked
regularly by an employer increases their sense of loyalty
for their company, according to The One4all Rewards
Review.
There are numerous ways that businesses can tweak
their rewards and bonus schemes, ensuring they have
the maximum impact and provide an optimum return on
investment.
Consider Timing
One in three employees (32%) are most likely to be
motivated by bonuses and incentives in mid-December.
However, 18% welcome a Christmas bonus in January,
suggesting that receiving a reward following the festive
season also raises morale.
Type of Rewards
Any tangible benefit is likely to be positive for morale and
motivation, but workers are most motivated by rewards
with a cash value – such as money or a gift card (69%).
That said, businesses which can’t stretch to
monetary bonuses should not be put off, as one
in three workers (31%) said they would be “very
unlikely” to leave a company that regularly shows
appreciation for their work.
Employee recognition doesn’t need to be in the
form of large sums of money or gift cards. In
fact, 31% of workers are happy to receive non-
monetary gifts and rewards from employers.
