Rewards How to SUPERCHARGE Christmas bonuses and rewards Christmas is known as the season of goodwill and a perfect time to recognise and reward the hard work of staff during the year. According to our research, the “ideal” value of a Christmas reward or incentive to improve motivation is £686. The value of recognising workers with bonuses, incentives and tangible tokens of gratitude is manifold, and it’s clear that rewards increase motivation, loyalty, morale and staff retention. Limited Bonus Pot In fact, 83% of British workers say that being thanked regularly by an employer increases their sense of loyalty for their company, according to The One4all Rewards Review. There are numerous ways that businesses can tweak their rewards and bonus schemes, ensuring they have the maximum impact and provide an optimum return on investment. Consider Timing One in three employees (32%) are most likely to be motivated by bonuses and incentives in mid-December. However, 18% welcome a Christmas bonus in January, suggesting that receiving a reward following the festive season also raises morale. Type of Rewards Any tangible benefit is likely to be positive for morale and motivation, but workers are most motivated by rewards with a cash value – such as money or a gift card (69%). That said, businesses which can’t stretch to monetary bonuses should not be put off, as one in three workers (31%) said they would be “very unlikely” to leave a company that regularly shows appreciation for their work. Employee recognition doesn’t need to be in the form of large sums of money or gift cards. In fact, 31% of workers are happy to receive non- monetary gifts and rewards from employers.
